Robert Redford Surprise
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup pecans or walnuts, finely chopped
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 4 ounces Cool Whip®
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 4 ounces instant chocolate pudding mix
- 4 ounces vanilla instant pudding mix
- 3 cups milk
Topping & Garnish
- 4 oz. Cool Whip®
- Chocolate candy bar, grated or shavings
For the crust (foundation), mix flour, butter and nuts until crumbly, press into 9×13 inch pan and bake in preheated 350°F oven for 20 minutes. Cool completely.
For the first layer, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar on high with a mixer until smooth. Fold in half the whipped topping. Spread over cooled crust.
For the second layer, Mix the chocolate and vanilla puddings with milk, beat slowly with mixer until smooth (2 minutes). Spread on top of cream cheese & cool whip layer. Let it cool before finishing the final layer.
For the final third layer, spoon remaining whipped topping over top and spread carefully. Garnish top with chocolate candy bar gratings or shavings.
Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Enjoy, then be prepared to share this recipe!
One of our accounting staff brought this “Robert Redford Surprise” dessert to our office pot luck parties several times, and she always left with the pan empty. It is so, so ONO, one bite, and you’ll be hooked… just like women probably were when Robert Redford was in his prime, hence the name. Some also call this dessert “Next Best Thing to Robert Redford“, or simply “Robert Redford Dessert”. Seriously, you gotta’ try this absolutely scrumptious dessert. Think Wahiawa’s Sunnyside Bakery’s Chocolate + Custard Pie on major steroids. It will leave your guests begging for more, even after they’re full from the main course!
