Mebbe no beef… but they do fries very well! I’ll actually have their fries with vintage Champagne… of course maybe with some grated Parmigiano-Reggiano and white truffle oil sprinkled over the top…

Dan, that’s kinda’ what I figured. Especially for the price. This reminds me of when McDonald’s Hawaii (or Oahu at least) were experimenting serving “plate lunches” based on their sandwiches. They would take their beef, chicken or fish patty/slash whatever it is and serve it with rice and macaroni salad on a plate, along with some kind of gravy. Something like that. I forget the details, as I’ve never bothered to go there and try it.

Amy, a “Whooper” sounds kinda’ scary. lol But I’m with you on a “basic” burger. Simpler (and reasonably-sized) the better for sure!

pomai – my wife too! i bring her all the way from WA and she’s heard about this place since we were on the plane. she wasnt impressed. said it tasted like any other of the Triple D’s…but where else can you still get a meal with salad AND soup AND drink AND dessert included?

Pomai, I like the basic hamburger with lettuce, tomato ketup, mayo and mustard. Sometime some onion chopped and grill on it. Big and Tasty and Whooper are the ones I go for.

Pomai, I not sure of knowing good Pipikaula if it made well . Like is it suppose to be like beef jerky dry and tough or moist and tender? I do not know much on Hawaiian Food but love eating it. Got to try the Squid Luau soon.

Jenny, wow, -1 SPAM Musubi, eh? “Slivers” of beef patties? Sheesh, is ground beef that much of a commodity issue for them? I suppose with Washington state so close to the border, your McDonald’s locations also serve the Mac Snack Wrap? You know, I’m not even sure whether or not the Hawaii locations have it, as I haven’t been to the Golden Arches in a while now.

Raph, I can’t even remember the last time I’ve had a Big Mac. The only thing I like at McDonald’s is their Filet O Fish (which unfortunately is almost as high in fat as the Big Mac) and Fries. Their salads are good too. IMO, McDonald’s definitely has the BEST FRIES of all the big fast food joints. Next I choose Burger King.

Wow, that is a pathetically small “patty” (if you can call it that) in the Big Mac! I wonder if that was a slice of beef meant for the Big Wrap Mac. I tried the latter recently and will not be ordering it again. It was two tiny slivers of “beef” with a few shreds of lettuce and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. The only thing it shared with the actual Big Mac was the special sauce.

Using your awesome rating system, I would have given it 0 Spams, or maybe even a negative-1.

This is why I don’t eat there very often. But you know, when you have keikis, you have to break down and go there now and then!

LOL u know i will admit pomai, i love me a big mac from time to time….however…the lack of beef, as you so astutely pointed out, is really a shame!!!!

Hawaiian Girl, funny you mention Walnut Shrimp. Panda Express is running a national TV ad campaign right now promoting their new Walnut Shrimp. They sure make it sound and LOOK good!

Kelike, I never mentioned it in my write-up, but because I was so "overdosed" with Chinese food thanks to going to Kin Wah almost EVERY WEEKEND, as an adult I suffered Chinese food "burnout". Yet, you know what? Now that I've finally gone back to Kin Wah years later, I'm now a reborn Chinese food lover! Ha ha! So you'll probably be seeing many more Chinese restaurants that I'll be visiting in the coming year! Thumbs-up once again to Chinese food, thanks to Kin Wah!

Dale, you grew up on the Windward side too?

hiyn_boy, my girlfriend went to Like Like Drive Inn a couple times recently, and both times left very disappointed. Still, I'll have to give them a try myself. After all, that place is truly a landmark institution. Their old neon light sign is still out in front!

Aaron, not anymore, but it used to be! While I agree about the Laulau, I thought the Pipikaula was actually a little tough and mostly just bland. Still no can beat Helena's Pipikaula.

Indeed worth stopping by. I'll be back again and again!

Dale, I still have to try the Hawaiian food at Masa & Joyce Okazuya in Kaneohe, which is another one of their specialties. You might wanna' add them as well to your list of eateries while on that Kaneohe/Kailua cruise.

Pomai, Kaneohe is not your regular stomping ground but you found a pretty good eatery here. The lau lau and pipikaula was not dry and tough like some places I had before. I like the lomi salmon pieces you could see and taste not ground up looking with more tomatos than salmon.

I will bring my other friends when I on a outing to Kaneohe. It a great stop over for lunch.

Everything looks awesome. I wish I had more time to range out to the windward side to sample all the great hidden grinds up there. I should plan a day in Kailua/Kaneohe sometime soon and put this place on my “hit list”.
