Kuhio Beach Grill Restaurant & Bar Celebrates Grand Opening at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

Guests Enjoy New Bourbon Lounge and Small Plates Experience

HONOLULU, Hawaii – (January 26, 2017) – Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa just celebrated its grand opening of Kuhio Beach Grill Restaurant & Bar, a dynamic Modern American cuisine restaurant and experiential whiskey and bourbon bar overlooking a spectacular view of Waikiki Beach.

Executive Sous Chef Dion Danao’s dishes are sourced from Hawaii’s bountiful ocean and farmlands, with a minimalistic approach and contemporary techniques, combined with familiar and true flavors. Contemporary small plates include an array of international blends like: Crispy Pork Belly with Bourbon Plum Sauce, Garlic & Sweet Chili Kauai Shrimp, White Wine Steamed Clams and Ahi Poke Musubi.

The new bourbon bar features Kuhio Beach Grill’s own unique whiskey and bourbon program of 50+ whiskeys, including 30+ bourbons from craft (small batch) distilleries such as Eagle Rare, Bookers, Basil Haydens, Millets, Elija Craig, and Makers 46, as well as small producers from Japan like Yamazaki and Hibiki.

The restaurant’s bourbon program is built around classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, Whiskey Sour, special pours and bourbon flights. Each mixologist will shake things up with a variety of ingredients and will display their artistry and expertise through the creation of the drink. A resident whiskey expert will also be on staff each evening and can assist in the selection of a whiskey suited to your taste.

All can be enjoyed 7 days a week during regular hours from 5pm to 10pm and at Happy Hour (5pm to 6:30pm & 8:30pm to 10pm) with craft cocktails for $8 and draft beer for $6. Entertainment featuring Hawaii’s emerging artists on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Featured events include: Wine Down Wednesdays with a sommelier-led wine tasting series on the first Wednesday of every month. And, coming soon…a Bourbon Battle event featuring the Marriott’s best mixologists from around the state.

The Tasty Island Summary

Pros: AWESOME folks that work for the Marriott, who manages Kuhio Beach Grill. Can’t say enough about their fantastic Aloha Spirit! All the food they served was AMAZING. OMG, that Ahi Carpaccio and Crispy Pork were both BOMB DOT COM! Their signature Guava Fizz and “Old Fashioned” Bourbon with Orange Bitters rock! The venue is spacious and clean as a science lab. Large centrally-located bar is a great centerpiece and focal point. Enough big screen TVs to enjoy Superbowl Sunday this weekend… Go Falcons! Great acoustics for live music.

Cons: Relatively small windows block too much of the otherwise fantastic elevated 2nd floor view of Waikiki’s Kuhio Beach. Access to the restaurant is too hidden (you need to go into the atrium of the building and go up the stairs), thus that might prove to be a hindrance on foot traffic. The ambiance is too wide open and “sterile”; it needs to be more cozy “Tiki Bar-ish”, like Dukes, IMO.

I stay in Marriott Courtyard when I travel. Not bad with suite rooms, gas fireplace, living room, bedroom, fully stocked kitchen with dining table, dishwasher, dressing room and small office space. Daily free full buffet breakfast, afternoon wine/beer/appetizers social and evening bbq. Swimming pool, weight/excersize room, tennis/basketball/volleyball court/ outdoor bbq, mini grocery store, business center and I have not had any problems and treated like family.

I use their rewards card when I feel like charging a bill but pay it off at end of month which gives me points for free nights or free flights or annual free night once a year.

I was entirely floored when they told me Marriott now owns the Ritz Carlton brand of properties. Not sure when’s the latest you’ve been in Waikiki, but you should see the Ritz Carlton Residence on Kuhio Avenue. It is GORGEOUS!!!

Wait till you look at all the properties they own! Blow your mind! Once you start staying at their brand named places you’ll really be surprised with service and amenities!

BTW: Marriott Residence Inn free breakfast buffet is changed every day at one I always stay at which you can take back to your suite as same with social and bbq foods.

Yup. Incredible how many properties they own. I’m thinking of selling my place and moving over to the Ritz Carlton Waikiki Beach Residences right up the street. Ha ha! I wish!

I must also add for all you old school folks, Marriott Waikiki used to be the Hawaiian Regent Hotel. Which back in the ’70s and ’80s was home to the Point After, a VERY popular nightclub, located on the second floor in the space that is currently the Royal Kaila Wedding & Spa. Kuhio Beach Grill is located next to Kaila Spa to the left corner. The space that’s Kuhio Beach Grill used to be a ballroom.

After the Point After, around the mid 90s it became EURASIA, another nightclub, featuring hip hop and house, with three dance floors and a DJ who use to watch p@rn (0penly where everyone could see) while spinning records. lol For realz!

Don’t see the Rye Whiskey. No Rye, no classic cocktails. Btw, cocktails were invented in America, and yes, out of American whiskeys.

    • February 1, 2017 at 1:35 pm

Knob Creek, one of the labels they carry makes a Rye Whiskey. I’m sure they have it in their bar stock.
