Holiday Party at Pomaika’i Ballroom

Hey, great name for a venue! Pomaika’i, which as you know happens to be my Hawaiian name — or “Pomai” for short — is translated from Hawaiian to English as “fortunate”,  “blessings”, or “God’s Blessings”, as interpreted in the Hawaiian Bible’s Book of Psalms.

As for the venue, Pomaika’i Ballroom is located at Dole Cannery in Iwilei, right above Regal movie theaters. You’d never expect there to be a fancy ballroom at this very industrial location, however, yes, it’s there. And it’s fantastic, being modern, luxurious, accommodating and up to par as any you’d find at the major hotels in Waikiki.

So now that we have that squared off, let’s check out what stay get, laddat!

Pomai, what I love of Hawaii is the mixture of different cultures in having get

together.  The food look so much of what Hawaii the best .

Actually, there was supposed to be sushi in this spread, but it didn’t show up.

That said, the food was overall average to good to excellent. The Prime Rib? Meh. The quality of beef was sub-par, and it was for the most part, under-seasoned and overcooked. I mean, no complaints by me, as I had a very good perfectly medium-rare cut, however a few others didn’t. I needed to add table and salt and pepper to mine to get seasoned properly.

Our biggest gripe was that they ran out of food towards the end of the service time, where the last people in line were shorted. What’s up with that? I’d say we deserve a refund for that!

Other than that, Pomaka’i Ballroom is a FANTASTIC venue. Very elegant and clean, along with a very friendly, accommodating staff (with what they have to work with).

While I haven’t done so yet, even with the shortage of food for our event (at the end of the line), I give Pomaka’i Ballrooms at Dole Cannery 4 out of 5 Yelp stars mainly because the friendly staff and very nice venue. Recommended.  ;-)

Pomai: Where you work, do you folks getting any work done? Or do you folks just eat and party? (Joking)

@ Alan – Work? Never heard of it. What’s that? All we do is eat! lol (j/k)

@ Amy – At the least, hopefully their management sees this post, so they correct running out of food for future customers. I’ll make note of it on Yelp as well.

If you’re referring to the white dog on the banner link at the very bottom of this post, click on that and there’s another photo of Tsu Ling in her better days. She’s a Shih Tzu. That photo you see there was her last day on Earth with me. She passed away the next day (we had to put her to sleep). There’s a whole story about her at that link.
