Yelp’s “Monster Mash” @ Aloha Tower

Yelp held a gala “Monster Mash” pre-Halloween Party on Tuesday evening, October 27, 2015 at Aloha Tower @ Pier 9, dockside of Honolulu Harbor. The event was presented by Mercedes-Benz of Honolulu, with benefit proceeds going to the Aloha United Way, and the Aloha United Way’s Society Of Young Leaders.

Following is The Tasty Island’s coverage of the Yelp “Monster Mash” @ Aloha Tower event. Enjoy. ;-)

“Mr Clean” and “Prince Ack-Ack-Ackmed”

And how was Yelp’s 2015 “Monster Mash” @ Aloha Tower pre-halloween event? A “SMASHING” GREAT time! All the vendor food samples were absolutely ono, which of course I was all about Bill’s Sydney’s Ahi Poke with Cherry Tomatoes and Kahuku Sea Asparagus, grabbing “extra” helpinz’ of that one for sure.

I’d estimate about 95% of everyone who attended did at least SOMETHING to pass as a costume, while more than 75% put in a decent effort with their costumes, whether it was store-bought or homemade.

Speaking of homemade, those were the only costumes qualified to enter the Yelp Monster Mash costume contest, with the grand prize being 80,000 free miles from Alaska Air. Which to note, I actually came VERY CLOSE to winning it, getting a raving cheer from the crowd as a finalist wearing my last minute costume as “Mr. Clean”. Which obviously looking at it, I put that together the night before this event, totally, totally last minute. I’ll be wearing it again on Saturday night in Waikiki, next time drawing Mr. Clean’s white eyebrows a little better (you don’t know HOW WEIRD I feel drawing eyebrows on my face LOL!). I actually even shaved off all my arm hair to look well, CLEAN like Mr. Clean, however I refuse to shave my eyebrows just to pull off Mr. Clean’s “clean” white eyebrow look. lol

Of all the year’s I’ve been an Elite Yelper (going on 5 now), this is only the second Yelp Elite event I’ve ever attended. Yet I must say, even with just those two experiences, Honolulu Yelpers are some of the coolest folks I’ve ever met! As I’ve said about the last Yelp Elite party I attended last year at Hawaiian Brians, the one this year at Aloha Tower had the same super friendly vibe. Everyone’s very social and willing to talk with you, no attitudes at all. Strictly aloha spirit! If you’re not already a part of the Yelp community, I highly suggest you start writing reviews and get onboard. Yelpers rule!

Huge mahalos to Mercedes-Benz of Honolulu, Emi and the entire Yelp crew, along with all the vendors and sponsors for the aloha. As always, you all ROCK these awesome Yelp Elite events!

    Kelike,

What exactly would a “Best Luau Chef” costume look like, and what would the skit be about?

Now that you mention that, someone should try making a “Samoan Coconut Tree Climber” Halloween costume!  To make the costume, dress  like this “Sole”. For the prop, carry just the top section of the coconut tree, made out of something light so it’s easy to carry around. Then for picture taking and contest skit, act like you’ve climbed up at the tree top and picking the coconuts off of it, yelling “Chee-hooooooo” repeatedly at the top your my lungs.  Now THAT would be totally ROFLMAO HILARIOUS! Chee-hoooooooo!!!!!  LOL!!!!!!

To anyone else who reads this, all The Tasty Island coverage photos for the Yelp “Monster Mash” @ Aloha Tower event have now been posted. Hope you enjoy it. Make sure to click on the link to Yelp for many, MANY more photos by our fellow Yelpers. Fun stuff for sure!

Your costume is perfect, but even w/o the Mr. Clean shirt, it was easy to tell who you were dressed as.

      h,

I actually threw that logo on there as an iron-on transfer to conceal a colorful logo print on the outside of that white t-shirt, so I’m wearing it inside-out. Yesterday after work I found a brand new Hanes® PLAIN WHITE (no print on it) t-shirt (an undershirt) in the local thrift store for just a $1, so I’ll wear that tomorrow in Waikiki.

Here’s a shot of us at today’s Halloween costume contest at the office….

Left to right, that’s Diner A as the “Sham Wow Guy”, Diner W as “The Joker”, Diner Pomai as “Mr. Clean” and Diner “Saimin Kaukau” E as “Groot visits Hawaii” (from Guardians of the Galaxy). I dunno. I look more like “Mr. Queen” than “Mr. Clean”. And how’s my black boxer shorts underwear peeking out at my belt line?  Talk about “Mary”. LOL!!!

Diner W (our new IT Manager) “The Joker” won the contest, scoring a $50 Costco gift card. Nice! Everyone else won cool gadgets. I traded gadgets for a cool remote control helicopter that I’ll have fun playing with in my living room for the next hour. Then I’ll get bored with it and fly it as far as it’ll go off my condo railing. J/K lol
