BREAD + BUTTER Grand Opening Party

From their soft opening back in mid May 2015, BREAD + BUTTER is finally ready to be official, throwing a regale grand opening party last night at their brand new hot spot in the heart of Honolulu. Specifically, right next door to Shokudo Japanese Restaurant on Kapiolani Boulevard, just a block in front of bustling Ala Moana Shopping Center. There, having replaced Angelo Pietro’s, a Japanese-Italian “fusion” restaurant, who in fact didn’t close, but moved to Kaimuki on 12th Avenue, replacing the space that was Kaimuki Grill, famous for their Beef Jerky Crisps and Hasu (Lotus Root) Chips.

BREAD + BUTTER is the newest concept by Hide Sakurai, the local restaurateur behind Shokudo Restaurant next door, as well as Buho Cantina y Cocina in Waikiki.

From their press release, “BREAD + BUTTER brings popular dining staples like sandwiches, pizzas and pastas to the heart of Ala Moana. Located on Kapiolani Boulevard, next to Shokudo, BREAD + BUTTER is designed to fit Sakurai’s vision for an intimate gathering place that offers healthy, grab-and-go options.

“I spoke with people who live in the area and realized that many of them are on-the-go and don’t have time to cook at home,” says Sakurai. “I wanted to create a place unlike anything else here, where people can come to catch up with a friend, conduct a business meeting or grab a glass of wine after a day at the office.”

From the menu to its design, the restaurant focuses on simplicity. The self-service concept seats about 50 people, spread out over different options from couches to lounge on, traditional tables and chairs, bench seating to a full-service bar. Serving three meals daily, the eatery provides a variety of options making it easy and appealing for customers to pay multiple visits throughout the day.”

Along with about a hundred other folks in the media, hospitality and F&B industry, as well as family and friends, on behalf of The Tasty Island, Yours Truly was invited to the BREAD + BUTTER grand opening party, which took place yesterday evening, Thursday, July 30, 2015. Following are photos I took of this FANTASTIC event. Enjoy!

About Shokudo Japanese Restaurant and Bar
Shokudo means “dining room” in Japanese – a place to sit with friends and family to share
food, drink and stories. Shokudo works to live up to that name, providing a place for friends
and family to come together in our dining room to celebrate good company, great drinks
and delicious food.

Located on Kapiolani Blvd across the street from Ala Moana Center, Shokudo blends
traditional and modern Asian cuisine. The creative fusion of dishes brings together the
flavors of Japan as well as cuisine from China, Korea, Italy and France with an extensive
menu of more than 60 different dishes.

About Buho Cocina y Cantina
Mexico native Chef Arturo is taking traditional Mexican cuisine to new heights atop this
open-air rooftop venue using the freshest of locally sourced produce and proteins as he
executes his motto “Refined not Refried.”
In addition to the food, Búho’s staff of mixologists have created an array of signature
cocktails to refresh the palate and distinguish it from any ordinary cantina. The 60-foot long
bar also boasts an impressive list of wines, beers and, of course, tequilas as well as a full
complement of whiskeys and aperitifs. Viva el Búho!

About Bread & Butter
Bread & Butter is Diamond Dining International Corporation’s newest concept, steadily
churning up healthy and convenient options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Serving both
gourmet and grab-and—go food options throughout the day, the self-service model of the
restaurant allows customers to either have a seat in the comfort of the restaurant – featuring lounge areas and high tops – or take their orders to go.
