Angelo’s 1st Birthday Baby Luau at Kanaha Beach, Maui

Baby Angelo’s first birthday Luau at Kanaha Beach in Kahului, Maui, with his daddy Tony

We celebrated baby Angelo’s 1st birthday baby Luau party this past Memorial Day weekend at Kanaha Beach in Kahului, Maui. It was a great beachfront event shared by family and friends, filled with lots of wonderful food, games for the keiki, hula performances, live music and talk story.

Angelo’s mom, Makanani, is a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), practicing at a federal veteran’s hospital, while her husband Tony, and daddy of Angelo is a college football team recruiting coordinator for the Willamette University Bearcats in Oregon. Tony also previously coached for Boise State, as well as being the head coach of a football team in France; the latter of which he lead to a championship. Quite a pedigree baby Angelo has, for sure.

Angelo gets his smokin’ hot good looks from mom, who is a mixture of Filipino, Spanish, Russian and Hawaiian. And from his dad who is Portuguese (yay!), Italian and Irish. So let’s add that up: Filipino, Spanish, Russian, Hawaiian, Portuguese, Italian and Irish. Wow! What a mixture you have, Mr. Angelo!

Grindz at baby Angelo’s first birthday were for the most part catered by Four Sisters Kitchen out of Wailuku, while “da uncles”, including yours truly did grilling duty, cooking the Kalbi and teriyaki style dogs over scorching hot Maui Kiawe wood (straight from the beach), on a very hot Maui day. The “spread” included Pinakbet, dry noodles featuring Iwamoto Natto Factory noodles, ala Sam Sato “dry mein” style, Chinese noodle salad, Caesar Salad, Kim Chee Salad, BBQ Hot Dogs, Kalbi, Chicken Katsu, Kakanin, Lumpia, Fresh Fruit and more!

And yes, there’s no Hawaiian food at this “luau”. However, it’s a first baby party, it’s in Hawaii, and most importantly Angelo is part-Hawaiian, so it’s still considered a baby Luau. A-ha!

Here’s complete photo coverage (using a SSGN II) of Angelo’s first birthday baby Luau at Kanaha Beach, Maui. Enjoy!

Pomai, great slideshow. What number 20 picture look like springrolls with sauce? My niece also had her one year old birthday party at Coyote Point in San Mateo park. It was bar bq with grandmother made lot of empanada for party. Baby was part Spanish and Chinese. Funny baby look like Angelo but she a girl named Sara. I made baked donuts still ended up leftover too much donuts so cousins took to hospital where she worked for all workers to enjoy.

No picutre of the grandparents? Maui and California? Party was awesome. Lets do it again for the 2nd birthday in Hawaii. Food was the best especially the grilled kal-bi ribs, and the manapua.
