If you’re looking for a good family-friendly place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner in the Kihei area, consider Stella Blues, an American restaurant located in the Azeka II Shopping Center on the mauka side of South Kihei Road.
All the comfort foods of your favorite local diner can be found on the menu, at moderate prices that are actually a good value considering the pleasant decor and ambiance, as well as the quality and portions of the dishes served.
On one visit, I had breakfast there with my girlfriend’s two cousins visiting from Las Vegas, where the little one ordered the pancakes from the Children’s Menu…

Stella Blues – Pancakes from Children’s Menu, $4.95 (IIRC)
I wonder if Walt Disney is cool with them shaping their pancakes like this? lol Notice they also provide coloring crayons and place mat to color on.
Cousin C ordered the Macadamia Nut Pancakes…

Stella Blues – Macadamia Nut Pancakes, half stack, $6
I went with none other than the local classic Portuguese Sausage, Eggs and Rice…

Stella Blues – Quickstart: 2 eggs (done sunnyside-up of course!), Portuguese Sausage, rice and toast, $8
Not much to say except everything was delicious. Filling, and cooked perfectly to order. Service was also friendly and prompt, with our glasses of water kept full at all times.
Because of its central location in Kihei, Stella Blues was a convenient place for us to return for dinner with a friend who lives just up the street.
The dinner menu includes complimentary dinner bread…
My girlfriend decided to try their Baby Back Ribs…

Stella Blues – Baby Back Ribs: Rubbed with secret spices, slowly roasted til falling off the bone, then grilled and brushed with our tropical bbq sauce, served with skillet cornbread and cole slaw, $25
She raved about the cornbread, which I could imagine went really well with those savory, char-grilled ribs…

The ribs were indeed fall-off-the-bone tender, with a nice char-grilled finish to them. She said the sauce was a bit on the tangy side. Overall thumbs-up.
Her friend ordered the Grilled Pork Chops…

Stella Blues – Grilled Pork Chops: A house cured pork chop, grilled til tender and juicy with caramelized onion jus,
mashed potatoes and vegetable of the day, $24
Her toddler-aged son ordered Hot Dog from the Children’s Menu…

Stella Blues – Hot Dog and Fries from the Children’s Menu, $n/a
Yours truly decided to try their take on my all-time favorite burger, the Swiss ‘n Mushroom…

Stella Blues – The Blues Burger: Succulent 1/2 pound all natural charbroiled beef patty from the Maui Cattle
Company with lettuce, tomato and red onion on a toasted roll served with French fries, $12 + Swiss $1 + Mushrooms, $2
Stella Blues Swiss ‘n Shroom burger was great. Char-grilled and seasoned to perfection, being just a little pink inside, which is how I like it. The bun was toasted, thank goodness. The only thing missing was some mayo’ spread on the bun, which really helps punch out the flavor of the beef and cheese. I could have asked for some on the side to spread on after the fact, but was satisfied with it just the way it was.
The portions were so big, all of us walked out with a doggie bag. Luckily we were staying at Kamaole Sands at the time, so we had the luxury of a microwave oven to heat it up to finish later.
Everything was delicious, and again, service was friendly and prompt.

Pomai, some children do not like kid menu but are small eater still. Reason is kid menu serve on kiddie plates and kids sometime feel they are well, people like grown up too. They want food not listed as kid menu but small eater portion and regular . Kids today getting too smart at time.
Some parents do not know how to order right food for their own child. Food that get them messy or hard to eat. Seen mom order for her 1 1/2 year old noodle with meatball. she can not even hold a spoon or fork or chew well. Young children still to chew need soft food or finger food.
Pomai Dude Man, did you ate some of that Portuguese Sausages before you took a picture? Just 3 slices of sausages serve to an order? I thought about 4 or 5 would do fine. Wonder where sell yaki (baked) manju that have pineapple fillings? Boy, my comment is nothing but questions.
Seen the menu notice they have coconut shrimp also. Wonder how the one at Tommy Bahama? I ate the one at Red Lobster it was pretty bad due to it was sweet from sweeten coconut. No sauce with it at all.
Amy, I see you’re firmly against Coconut Shrimp made with sweetened shredded coconut. To be honest, I can’t remember whether Tommy Bahama’s Coconut Shrimp was made with sweetened or unsweetened shredded coconut. I do remember the sauce served with it was sweet, which worked very well for the dish.
Kimo, yeah 3 pieces of PS sounds kinda’ “manini”, but it worked out being just the right amount along with the eggs and rice portion given on the plate. they were cut thick, so that helped stretch it.
Betty, the thing that kinda’ bothers me about kids menus, is they’re often primarily “junk food”. Of course that’s what kids love, but they should try and be more creative instead of offering the usual PBJ sandwich, hot dog, hamburger, chicken nuggets and mac ‘n cheese.
Stella’s is one good place choke locals in Kihei hang out at. They used to do live music nightly if I remember.
Oh I highly recommend Stella Blues. In fact, when Jeremiah Owyang (the dude from Forrester Research
– came here on Maui, I organized the first tweet-up at Stella Blues. He’ liked the Kahlua pork he ordered

Oh I forgot the other link: (my husband thinks their burger is da best! )

C, on my last trip, someone told me Ocean’s Beach Bar & Grill in Kihei is the new clubbing hotspot in the area since Hapa’s closed down. Looks like the former Hapa’s restaurant is now a mexican restaurant? I believe that’s what was in there when I drove through there.
A Maui Blog, I can believe your husband’s vote for SB as having the best burger, as my Swiss ‘N Mushroom burger was, no pun intended, STELLAR. I’d order it again for sure. The char-grilled beef patty was juicy and packed with flavor.
SB is a really nice restaurant as well. Pleasant casual ambiance that can fit right in with your best friends for dinner and cocktails on a Friday night, or for a Sunday morning breakfast with the family before heading to the beach.
