Thai Watermelon cut in half
Mmmm, watermelon, the perfect choice on a hot summer day. Browsing through the produce department in the Kaheka Don Quijote this morning, I came across a full pallet of beautiful Thai Watermelons from Aloun Farms. They were on sale for just $2.49 each, so I gladly chose a nice one and added it to my cart.
Its outter appearance looks very much like a standard watermelon, except much smaller…
Whole Thai Watermelon
This particular (ripe and ready-to-eat) watermelon measures 8-1/2″ in length x 6-3/8″ in diameter…
Some in the pallet container were a little smaller, some a little bigger, but this was pretty much the average size.
Notice how thin the rind is, so even though it’s smaller, there’s more edible pink flesh to enjoy out of it. While there are some black seeds, it’s fairly sparse, making picking or spitting them out not as much a chore as a regular watermelon.
I like my watermelon ice cold, so I put it in the freezer for about an hour before slicing and serving it.
Well, let’s grind some Thai Watermelon!…
It tastes just like a regular watermelon, except the flesh is a little more dense. Very sweet and juicy. Ono! Hits the spot.
